Keeping a winter photo shoot comfy and fun. Combining images.
The project for the glove catalog Zero Glove, was to photograph a model in the snow with a snow board featuring winter gloves and head wear. When it was time to photograph the accepted idea there was a couple problems. First, there was very limited snow and second, it became unbearably cold for the day we scheduled the model.
The idea was to go out to a recreational area which makes it’s own snow. It was, at that time, the ONLY area around with at least eight to ten inches of snow. A few different winter scenes were photographed to be selected later.
The model was photographed in the studio. Studio temp, 70˚. Outside temp, 10˚.
Snow photos. Did I mention it was 10˚ when these scenes were photographed?
The following image was softened for effect when added to the model photo.
Studio model photos. Attention to light coming from the left as it was in the outdoor photos.
Combined photos. In the first photo, the company logo for Zero Glove is added to the snowboard.
It takes a little more time photographing backgrounds, photographing the model in studio and computer work combining the images. It provides a more controlled image. The background can be moved around to fit the composition. It’s much more comfortable for the model and the photographer, too!
